Accommodation info
The importance of good accommodation. As a rule all accommodations offered by us are periodically personally tested by one of our team. Our minimal requirements always include en-suite bathroom, good beds, excellent hygiene, friendly service, good Wi-Fi, and where possible a good setting or location. We prefer professionally run small scale establishments where the emphasis is on personal service.
Extensive knowledge and experience. Our team regularly travel to southern Africa to enable us to keep up with changes, nieuw accommodations, day tours, activities, attractions etc. By travelling between 15,000 and 25,000 km every year we are able to assist every client to get the most out of there intended holiday and exactly tailor make each trip to their unique requirements.
Overview accommodation examples
South Africa has a vast range of different accommodations ranging from extremely basic to 7 star ultra-luxury. In the past 15 years we have visited over 700 accommodations in Southern Africa and keep a regular check on the level of quality and service. Mostly we offer the better small scale personally run accommodations. On average we work with 3 to 5 star accommodations most of whom we have built a personal relationship.
We offer much more than a conventional booking site! With our unique knowledge and wide range of personally tested small scale accommodations we are probably able to offer you the best possible combination of route, tempo and accommodations to suit your unique requirements.
In general we work with small scale professionally run guesthouses, (safari) lodges, family and boutique hotels with an average 3 to 4 standard. We also offer a select number of affordable but exclusive 5 star establishments offering that very special more personal feeling we prefer. The accommodations offered as a rule include breakfast but mostly exclude dinner as most places visited have various options to eat out at night. Where the option to eat out at night is limited or non-existent we automatically include dinner in the offered accommodation package. As a rule self-catering is only offered in national parks where accommodation normally includes a small kitchen. For those who do not wish to make their own breakfast most camps in national parks have one or more restaurants.
Our relationships with our accommodations often stretches over many years and as a rule is direct and personal.
Quotation. As we prefer using the more personally run smaller establishments all provisional quotes initially contain only the place or town name. Once your exact route, timing and other personal preferences are established and you are satisfied with what is being offered we will approach the accommodations most suitable to your requirements. When all services required for your unique trip are secured and provisionally in place you will receive a fixed quotation which is valid for a limited amount of time. These services are obviously free of charge.
Special needs & requirements? If you have special needs or specific requirements like personal dietary needs or if you are partially disabled we will gladly assist you.
Avoid mass tourism: Where possible we offer routes and places just a little off the beaten track. We tend to offer a more relaxed tempo of travel discovering off the beaten track places and avoiding where possible mass tourism.
Special interests: For the traveller who has special interests like hiking, golf, art, diving, honeymooning etc. LB Safaris is a suitable partner. With our own office in South Africa and working closely with companies that use where feasible, environmentally friendly practises and that have a fair & social employment policy for the local people we are able to offer most our clients a truly unique and special holiday.
As a rule we only use THETA registered guides and if suitable we also promote FTTSA (Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa) accommodations and/or companies.

Variation. With such a large diverse region all accommodations have a very unique identity and feel which varies greatly. We can however use general terms to describe basic attributes and characteristics.
Small up to 15 rooms. Guesthouses, (safari)lodges, guest farms, small family or boutique hotels. Often uniquely situated with a special cosy feel, typical African ambience and usually personally run by the owner. Except for Botswana most of our accommodations fall in this category.
Medium size 15 to 25 rooms. Guesthouses, lodges, boutique or special hotels. Often uniquely situated with a special cosy feel, typical African ambience and usually with an owner that is personally involved. These accommodations are very professionally run and not large enough to be listed as mass accommodation but not quite small enough to have that unique personal touch.
Large 25 rooms or more. Where we have no other option than the larger establishments we offer only the best possible. All these accommodations are personally tested by one of more our team.
Luxury. Usually with a limited number of rooms but with an impeccable level of service and quality of accommodation. Guesthouses, lodges, boutique or special hotels often personally run and each with a very special USP. Prices tend to vary but good value for money is an absolute must. Often these accommodations are used as a highlight of a trip or at the end.
National parks. Accommodation types and numbers available vary greatly when it comes to National Parks. We are an acknowledged agent for all national parks in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana and will gladly advise you personally on what suits your unique travel requirements and budget.

Bed & Breakfast is a concept well known to most people. As this could also be a where people offer travellers a place to stay in their own home the standards and types can vary from very high end to extremely basic.
We exclusively work with professionally run establishments with a minimum 3 star standard and always include a en-suite bathroom. These accommodations are usually uniquely situated with a special cosy feel, typical African ambience and personally run by the owner. Whether we offer a B&B accommodation depends on your specific and unique requirements.
What is good value for your hard earned money?
Even with a limited but realistic budget we are able to assist most people to experience a truly wonderful journey through southern Africa. Also for travellers with an above average requirements we succeed in offering just that something extra. We are just as passionate about travelling than we are about our Africa.
