Ku Sungula means “new beginning” in the local Shangane and the safari lodge is located in the 40,000 hectare Balule Private Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger Park ecosystem. The reserve is home to the Big 5 and many other animals, and is a paradise for birds. Besides typical African safari styled rondavels the lodge has a shady terrace overlooking a waterhole and a pool to cool down on the hot summer days. Activities
GAME DRIVE
On our 3 hour game drive the expert guide will take you up close to the animals for an unforgettable experience. Balule can compete with any of the other private reserves when it comes to sightings and with maximum 2 vehicles at a special sighting will never feel overcrowded.
SUNSET DRIVE
The sunrise and sunset drives cover a smaller area but can be more personalized to your interests and are perfect for our younger visitors. Enjoy the fresh morning air with a cup of coffee in the middle of the bush or watch the sun go down with a cold drink and some snacks.
BUSH WALK
Greet the new day in the bush and explore the fascinating African nature by foot, accompanied by a qualified and armed guide. On the walk you will learn about tracks, plants, trees and birds and much more. Although you can encounter big game during your walk, the emphasis lies on the smaller things in the bush that often get overlooked during a drive.
PANORAMA ROUTE
Discover the beauty of of the scenic panorama route with it's magnificent views and waterfalls. From our lodge you can do a day trip to explore this route through the Klein Drakensberg mountains. See God's window, the Three rondawels, Bourkes luck potholes, Mac Mac Falls and much more.
BOAT TRIP BLYDE DAM
Explore the beauty of this third largest Canyon in the world from the water. Look for crocodiles, hippos and water birds while the guide tells you about the history of this largest green canyon. See the rock formation that is called “the weeping face of nature” and is formed by rare tufa waterfalls.
BOAT TRIP OLIFANTS RIVER
Unforgettable 2 hour boat trip on the magnificent Olifants River, one of the largest rivers of the Kruger National Park. From a house boat you can watch the crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes, elephants and many other animals on the green banks while you enjoy a cool drink.
HOT AIR BALLOON FLIGHT
Experience the magic of floating over the scenic Lowveld in a hot air balloon at sunrise. In the hour long flight above the Blyde river area just west of Hoedspruit you can enjoy the beautiful views. Come aboard for the experience of a lifetime.
MICRO LIGHT FLIGHT
An once in a life time experience that you won't easily forget. The flights above Big-5 areas around Hoedspruit and the Klaserie Nature Reserve will give you a birds eye view of the bush. The route can be adjusted to suit your wishes.
HORSE BACK SAFARI
We leave the stables and ride into the wildlife estate for an unique safari. On the horses we explore the small winding paths in the tranquillity of the surrounding bush. The impalas and warthogs won't even notice you and continue their normal activities.
